Where Kamala Harris and Donald Trump stand on the issue of immigration

The November 5 presidential elections are right around the corner and both the candidates are in the final stretch of raising funds, campaigning and shoring up vital votes in the many states that make up the complicated US political fabric.
Within that fabric are also various issues that can’t be ignored, especially during a presidential election with so much at stake. Out of those issues, one is how the next administration will choose to handle immigration in the country.
Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump hold somewhat similar views on increasing border security, but past that, it’s starkly divergent.
The Republican Party has left no stone unturned in pointing fingers at the vice president when it comes to immigration-related problems and crimes. To be fair, Harris was, in fact, tapped by President Biden in 2021 to examine the causes of the Central American migration to the US.
Harris has also held progressive views on the issues in the past, noting that she is against family separations at the border and supports undocumented spouses of US citizens to apply for green cards. Unsurprisingly, she also voted against Trump’s proposed border wall as a senator.
In response to the incessant attacks from the Republican Party, Harris decided to point to her resume, specifically her tenure as the Attorney General when she prosecuted drug smugglers and gangs responsible for smuggling drugs into the country.
The former president is, if anything, entirely clear about his view on illegal immigration: he will have none of it. Trump, according to CNBC, has promised a crackdown on illegal immigration if he is elected president. His website details how he plans to utilise the numerous law enforcement agencies to round up illegal immigrants and remove them from the country.
Trump has promised to initiate the largest deportation in the country’s history and send all illegal immigrants back outside the country’s borders using the National Guard and detention camps. The former president also plans to revive, according to the Economic Times, the travel bans on Muslim countries. Furthermore, he has proposed to rescind citizenship of those whose parents entered the country in an illegal manner.
